Sifting through the various educational options can be confusing as parents try to find the best fit for their child and budget. In lieu of driving to learning centers such as Sylvan® Learning, many families now prefer online learning options such as Time4Learning. What’s the difference? They are quite different options.
What are Sylvan® Learning Centers? Sylvan Learning Center offers a variety of programs for students. Tutoring, test preparation, and homework help are amongst the services offered for students Preschool through Twelfth Grade. Parents who are looking for outside assistance for their children in an after-school setting can receive personalized instruction through an “individualized attention” plan. Some of these programs may require an assessment before getting started. Sylvan® does however, also provide online math and reading instruction to students’ homes through Sylvan Online, http://www.sylvanlearning.com/tutoring/online-tutoring.

Online Curriculum – Time4Learning
How can Time4Learning be used? Time4Learning can be used in conjunction with the remediation provided by learning centers and can be used alone, as a homeschool curriculum, or after-school tutorial. Some students use Time4Learning as a replacement for summer school when they feel that they want to review the previous year’s work or get a head start on the next year’s studies.
Time4Learning is a multi-media alternative to traditional classroom, textbook, or learning center approaches to learning in that it provides an interactive online educational experience for kids. Time4Learning takes into account the busy schedules of families, offering a convenient home-based resource for children to navigate. Time4Learning is student-paced so children work at their own rhythm.
Time4Learning is an inexpensive alternative to many of the other academic support programs out there and offers a standards-based program for math and reading. Also, Time4Learning includes a social studies and science component. Click to learn more.

Learning Centers vs. Online Curriculum
Which program should I choose? Parents face the challenge of making constant decisions in the best interest of their children. Figuring out which type of program to use can be a struggle, considering each child has different needs and abilities. There is not one answer or solution out there, yet several options to explore. Basically, it comes down to scheduling and your child’s needs.
What is the main difference between some learning centers and online learning? The main difference between learning centers and online learning is that centers are outside of the home and similar to a traditional school set-up, with a teacher/tutor and other children, whereas online programs, such as Time4Learning, allow for independent and interactive work via the computer, within the home. Start now.
How will online learning enrich my child? Online learning programs are resources that use interactive activities to teach lessons or curriculum. Time4Learning is appealing because it focuses on curriculum through fun and entertaining activities, engaging children in their learning.
Which is more convenient? Online programs tend to be more convenient because they are used within the home. This makes for easier scheduling and gives families much needed flexibility. Learning centers operate during specific after-school hours, which works for some families and not for others.
Which is more cost-effective? The expenses associated with learning centers can be overwhelming for some families. Time4Learning is a non-contract binding program featuring content and curriculum from multiple subject areas.
Time4Learning is offered at a surprisingly low cost. Parents find that Time4Learning’s cost for six months is less than the monthly cost of most tutoring centers. Find out more about Time4Learning’s two week, money-back guarantee.
Staying involved in your child’s educational journey is most important, yet sometimes difficult when relinquishing certain control to an after-school program. The Time4Learning program offers extensive support and tracking systems for parents.
Parents are consistently provided with a scope and sequence, lessons plans, and the ability to track their own child’s progress, making scores, assignments and assessments readily available at all times. With the ability to print these plans and assignments, parents can easily create a home-school portfolio, saving time and helping in the overall organization. Parental support is also given through our online forum where discussions and questions may be posted.
Time4Learning is very effective in its goal to captivate and educate students simultaneously. It is increasingly less costly and more comprehensive than other programs. Parents who are looking for a daily, interesting way for their child to learn via the modern technology of a computer would be best accommodated using Time4Learning. Sign up for Time4Learning and begin using the many resources. We look forward to helping foster the growth and journey of your child.

The Time4Learning Program Structure
Time4Learning has been refined through years of feedback from educators, parents, and students. Subjects are organized into chapters composed of interactive lessons, printable worksheets, quizzes and tests. Students are guided through the activities at their own pace by an automated system.
When students log in, they choose a subject, select a chapter, pick a lesson and complete the activities. A bright green arrow tells them where they left off, and completed work is clearly labeled with a check-mark or a gold star. Visual and auditory prompts guide students through the lessons making them easy for young learners to follow, and an online playground (controlled by parents) rewards and motivates them to finish their lessons.
Parents get access to printable lesson plans, teaching tools, detailed reporting and parental support through our online Parent Forum.
Does your child have different achievement levels for math and language arts? No problem. Time4Learning lets you set each individual subject at the appropriate graded level, making this program great for special needs and gifted students.
