Civil Disobedience

The Yellow Wallpaper (original title: "The Yellow Wall-paper. A Story") is a 6,000-word short story by the American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in The New England Magazine. It is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's health, both physical and mental.

On the Duty of Civil Disobedience is an essay by American author Henry David Thoreau and was first published in 1849 with the title of "Resistance to Civil Government". Thoreau sets forth an argument that people should not permit governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences, or the government makes them agents of injustice. Thoreau was motivated by his opposition to slavery and to the Mexican-American War.
