Social studies is essential to understanding the complexity of the world. The concepts, information, and practices in social studies help students to build an informed and balanced view of our interconnected world and its citizens. Time4Learning’s high school social studies courses are designed to prepare students for further study at the college level.

Learn more about which 12th grade history class we recommend, the objectives you should be reaching for, and how Time4Learning’s 12th grade social studies curriculum can be your ideal choice.

What do You Teach in 12th Grade Social Studies?

Because most colleges only expect 3 years of social studies credits in high school, the 12th grade history course that your student takes is largely up to you. However, if your college-bound student has not previously taken at least US History or World History, be sure to include that missing credit this year. If all U.S. History and World History credits are complete, Time4Learning recommends combining our one-semester U.S. Government course with a one-semester Economics elective for a full grade 12 social studies credit.

Social Studies Objectives for Twelfth Grade

By the time they graduate high school, students should be able to:

  • Read complex texts at grade level.
  • Read, write, and communicate ideas about history, geography, economics, and civics.
  • Solve problems, make decisions and analyze issues from multiple perspectives.
  • Analyze major historical periods and how they shift over time among nations and cultures.
  • Have an understanding of the rights, roles, and responsibilities of citizens.
  • Explain how the structure and functions of governments impact societies and citizens.
