Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University
Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins is a school that provides online courses for students who have advanced knowledge and learning goals. These courses are accredited for children in grades 5-12. Students who wish to enroll in either a writing, language arts, humanities, or social science class will be required to meet the qualifying score of the school’s assigned grade-level test. If taking any math, science, or computer science and technology courses, students must meet the qualifying math score on the required grade-level exam.
How is your student’s progress tracked? Students are assigned an instructor with each course they enroll in. All of Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth courses fall into one of the following three categories that can take anywhere between three and nine months to complete: Individually paced, session-based, and flexi-paced. The instructor will meet with the student either in an online classroom, via email, or over the telephone to introduce the course and give out any assignments. Lessons may be a combination of online information and practice problems, or materials found on the course’s CD-ROM. The instructor is responsible for creating progress reports and assigning grades. Students are sent completed course documents after each course is finished. Parents also have the right to request a Center for Talented Youth official academic record at any time for a fee of $5

The Time4Learning Program Structure
Time4Learning has been refined through years of feedback from educators, parents, and students. Subjects are organized into chapters composed of interactive lessons, printable worksheets, quizzes and tests. Students are guided through the activities at their own pace by an automated system.
When students log in, they choose a subject, select a chapter, pick a lesson and complete the activities. A bright green arrow tells them where they left off, and completed work is clearly labeled with a check-mark or a gold star. Visual and auditory prompts guide students through the lessons, making it easy for even young learners to follow, and an online playground (controlled by parents) rewards and motivates them to finish their lessons.
Parents get access to printable lesson plans, teaching tools, detailed reporting and parental support through our online Parent Forum.
Does your child have different achievement levels for math and language arts? No problem! Time4Learning lets you set each individual subject at the appropriate graded level, making this program great for special needs and gifted students.
