Best Homeschool Curriculum
Sifting through a variety of homeschool, skill building and afterschool options can be confusing as you try to find the best fit for your child and budget. On the surface, some online learning solutions, such as IXL, might seem similar to Time4Learning in features, benefits, and pricing. However, when you give them a closer look you’ll see there are distinct differences between them.
What is IXL? IXL is a K-12 learning experience that provides content for math and language arts, as well as science and social studies for grades 2-5.
IXL is essentially a companion program for a traditional school education, acting as a tutor for children to augment and reinforce what they have learned in school. Basically, it’s a la carte practice work, and not a complete curriculum for serious homeschooling parents.

Online Curriculum – Time4Learning
How can Time4Learning be used? Like IXL, Time4Learning can be used in conjunction with traditional schools and learning centers. However, unlike IXL, Time4Learning can be used as a comprehensive homeschool curriculum.
Time4Learning’s award-winning curriculum provides lessons in the core subjects of math, language arts, science and social studies, and also offers access to foreign languages. The engaging and interactive lessons create a stronger opportunity for students to retain what they learn and develop positive feelings toward learning itself.
Time4Learning takes into account the busy schedules of families, offering convenient student-paced activities for children to complete. Children work at their own rhythm, and can repeat lessons as often as they like.
Time4Learning is an affordable alternative to many of the other academic support programs.
Time4Learning vs. IXL
Which program should I choose? Parents face the challenge of making constant decisions in the best interest of their children. Figuring out which type of program to use can be a struggle, considering each child has different needs and abilities. There is not one answer or solution out there, yet several options to explore. Basically, it comes down to what works for your family.
What is the main difference between Time4Learning and IXL? The main difference between Time4Learning and IXL is the amount of content that is offered. Time4Learning can be used as a one-stop-shop for your child’s homeschool educational needs, from preschool through high school graduation. We can also be used as an augmentation to traditional schooling, as well as an alternative to summer school.
IXL is more or less a generalized tutor that mainly serves as additional learning for students who are attending a brick-and-mortar school. The IXL content provided is not nearly as deep or interactive as what we offer at Time4Learning, and it cannot stand as a curriculum unto itself. Finally, IXL is significantly limited in its scope, as it only offers Science and Social Studies to grades 2-5, while Time4Learning offers all core subjects, including a vastly deeper Language Arts segment that teaches both reading and writing, while IXL focuses only on reading comprehension. Essentially, Time4Learning can do everything IXL can do, but we do it better and offer significantly more depth, right down to the quality of the animation in our highly engaging interactive lessons, which allow for independent and interactive work via the computer within your home. How will online learning enrich my child? Online learning programs are resources that use interactive activities to teach lessons in a variety of subjects. Time4Learning is appealing because it delivers a comprehensive curriculum through fun and entertaining activities, engaging children in their learning.
Which is more cost-effective? If you select the all access package from IXL, it is the same price as Time4Learning per month, but you get so much more from what we offer – deeper, more comprehensive award-winning homeschool curriculum and a suite of helpful parent tools and resources. Time4Learning also offers electives and an educational playground in addition to its core subjects. Furthermore, students using the Time4Learning curriculum will have access to three grade levels at a time, with one above and one below the current grade. For example, a student in third grade, would also have access to second and fourth grade courses.
And if you are the parent of a traditionally-educated child who only needs specific subjects, and purchasing one course subject at a time, IXL would provide a lower cost compared to Time4Learning. However, many of IXl’s subjects are only available in a limited amount of grade levels. Another difference is, you will receive all of the subjects and added features from Time4Learning as it is an all inclusive package. Therefore, if you are looking for a comprehensive online curriculum, Time4Learning is the more cost effective choice.
With Time4Learning, you will be able to choose what you need and use it at your own pace. Plus, Time4Learning members can start, stop, or pause at anytime because there are no contracts. Find out more about Time4Learning’s two week, money-back guarantee.
Time4Learning offers extensive support and tracking systems for parents.
Parents have access to lesson plans, and are given the ability to track their children’s progress. With the ability to print the lesson plans and track student’s results, parents can easily create a homeschool portfolio. Parental support is also given through our online forum where questions may be posted and discussions are ongoing.
Time4Learning is very effective in its goal to captivate and educate students simultaneously. It is increasingly less costly and more comprehensive than other programs. Parents who are looking for a daily, interesting way for their child to learn via the modern technology of a computer would be best accommodated using Time4Learning.
*Note – Time4Learning is not affiliated with IXL®. Time4Learning’s purpose with this page is to provide information to families who are considering the benefits of different approaches to providing supplementary or core educational services to their children.
The Time4Learning Program Structure
Time4Learning has been refined through years of feedback from educators, parents, and students. Subjects are organized into chapters composed of interactive lessons, printable worksheets, quizzes, and tests. Students are guided through the activities at their own pace by an automated system.
When students log in, they choose a subject, select a chapter, pick a lesson and complete the activities. A check mark tells them where they left off, and completed work is clearly labeled with a check mark. Visual and auditory prompts guide students through the lessons making them easy for young learners to follow, and an online playground (controlled by parents) rewards and motivates them to finish their lessons.
Parents get access to printable lesson plans, teaching tools, detailed reporting and parental support through our online Parent Forum.
Does your child have different achievement levels for math and language arts? No problem. Time4Learning lets you set each individual subject at the appropriate grade level, making this program great for special needs and gifted students.
