Zilker Park

This 351-acre recreational area grants visitors the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with a number of activities. Homeschoolers can take a ride on a miniature train, hike or bike the numerous trails, rent a canoe, or just relax and have a picnic. A popular attraction within the park is the Barton Springs Pool. There is also the Austin Nature & Science Center that provides a number of nature exhibits and family programs.

Bob Bullock Museum

This Texas history museum was established in 2001 and named after former Texas Lieut Gov Bob Bullock. The museum has a number of interactive exhibits, galleries, an IMAX theater, and various family programs. With over 700 original artifacts, including the hull of a 17th century ship, homeschoolers can explore and learn everything there is to know about the history of Texas.

Pioneer Farms

With several historic areas to explore, visitors to Pioneer Farms can get a glimpse of what life was like for pioneers in the 1800s. A number of history and nature programs allow homeschoolers to learn about Texas history, as well as a number of educational classes.
Homeschooling families are also treated to a special day each fall and spring.

Austin Zoo

Also an animal sanctuary, this rescue zoo is home to hundreds of animals including lions, tigers, lemurs, monkeys, and more. Their missions is to help animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and education. The zoo offers various educational opportunities like Zoo Tots and a summer program.

Austin Aquarium

Homeschoolers will love visiting this attraction where they can touch and feed animals like stingrays and iguanas. Visitors can also see and learn about sharks, exotic birds, reptiles, tons of tropical fish, and more. The aquarium also offers educational tours for homeschoolers, an internship program, and special events like sleepovers.
