What is Time4Art?
Time4Art is an animated art program for homeschool, afterschool and summer use that teaches the principles and history of art. Animated characters lead students through interactive lessons on topics such as line, form, and color, using real examples from art history to illustrate each concept. Furnace the Polar Bear and Ruby and Tickles the Penguins guide students, step-by-step, through creating their own art, both on and off the computer.
Is Time4Art available for use in schools?
Time4Learning is offered exclusively for use in the home. Time4Learning provides its program on a subscription basis to families for homeschool, afterschool, and summer use. Time4Learning does not provide its art program to schools. It is available through Creativity Express.
Why did Time4Learning add art to its available curriculum?
It has been proven that exposure to art promotes brain activity. Participating in art helps students gain tools necessary for understanding other academic subjects. Art helps encourage creativity, develops self-esteem, and provides practice in problem solving. Time4Learning was excited to find an art program that meets its quality standards for homeschool curriculum and matches its educational philosophy. If members are enthusiastic about the art program, it could pave the way for additional electives to be offered in the future.
What is included in the homeschool art program?
Sixteen lessons teach art theory, art history, and art techniques. Each lesson is comprised of three main parts: SAY art, SEE art, and DO art. During SAY art, students view an animated video that presents the lesson concept and then practice what they have learned in an open-ended online activity. SEE art introduces various artists and their work as examples of the concept being studied. DO art offers students an opportunity to create their own art, using offline media or a digital paint program.
Each lesson concludes with a quiz designed to assess the student’s understanding of material presented. The higher the student scores on the quiz, the more artist cards and puzzle pieces they can collect.
When creating their own art, students may choose to use their own offline media, such as pencils, paper, and paint, or a digital paint program. Most computers come with a digital paint program installed, or many can be downloaded for free online. Time4Art includes an online art portfolio, where students may save their digital creations. Students who wish to do so may also scan and save their offline art projects in the portfolio.
You can check out the demo lesson to get a better idea of how the program works.
In what grade levels is the art program available?
Time4Art teaches the principles of art through interactive lessons. It was designed for children who have been reading for a few years and can understand advanced concepts. We want to be sure that students fully understand and appreciate the lessons being taught, which is why it may not be suitable for children below the fourth grade level.
If you would still like for your lower level students to access the art program, Time4Learning will need to provide them with upper level access. Please log into your Parent Dashboard to request access to the art program. Keep in mind that students in the upper level can access the playground at any time, without having to complete required lesson time first.
What is the Student Art Gallery?
Time4Learning will be featuring student artwork on the Student Dashboard at the upper level. If you would like your student’s work to be featured, email your digital images, along with the student’s name, age, and the title of the work to artgallery @ time4learning.com.
How do we get started with Time4Art?
Time4Art is available for any 4th – 12th grade student. Once you are a member of Time4Learning, your student will simply login to their account and click on Time4Art. It’s that simple!
