Total Activities: 7

Science Tools: The Tools module introduces students to the tools scientists use for both qualitative and quantitative observations. Students learn to use tools such as their 5 senses, rulers, and balance scales through hands-on activities.

 Matter

Observing Matter: In the Observing Matter module, students begin to learn the words to describe matter correctly and accurately, learning important skills for communicating scientific information.

 Energy

Energy Sources: In the Energy Sources module, students are introduced to the idea that all plants and animals need energy. In fact, people need energy to live, work, grow, and play. Interactive games help students practice identifying energy types that we use every day: electricity, food, and sunlight.
Location and Perspective: The Location and Perspective module helps students explore spatial relationships and then develop the vocabulary to describe these relationships from multiple locations. Interactive games help students to see everyday objects from different perspectives.
Living & Nonliving: All living things need food, water, air, and a place to live and grow. This module explains the needs and characteristics that all living things share and guides students as they discover the differences between living and nonliving things. Animals: The Animals module begins with an area of fascination for students, animals of all sorts. An animated host begins the unit by introducing students to wild animals in their habitats. In online and offline activities, students broaden their understanding of animals by learning to identify and classify animals into six categories: mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates.

 Earth

Materials: The Earth’s Materials module taps into student knowledge immediately by beginning with a story about a class rock collection. Students use a dichotomous Key to sort materials into natural and manmade and sort further using the adjectives rough and smooth; this activity builds both science and language skills as students classify materials and build deeper understanding of new vocabulary.
