Continued from First Grade Math Curriculum Page.
A first grade math curriculum should be taught using first grade lessons including interactive activities, learning games, printable worksheets, assessments, and reinforcement. Manipulatives are very important for first grade math lessons. First grade math curriculum should rely on many learning tools – first grade lessons with activities, worksheets, reinforcement exercises, and assessments. And a first grade math curriculum should cover all the math strands, not just arithmetic. The major math strands for first grade curriculum are number sense and operations, algebra, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, and data analysis and probability. While these math strands might surprise you, they are all critical lessons for a first grade math curriculum.
1st grade math lessons, worksheets, and activities teach first grade math curriculum covering all the math strands.
1st Grade Math – What are the Standards and Curriculum?
Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive 1st grade math curriculum using fun, first grade math activities to build a solid math foundation. Help your child excel in math, learn more about Time4Learning’s first grade math lessons, curriculum, activities and worksheets.
1st Grade Math Curriculum and Standards – Lessons, Activities, Worksheets -Geometry and Spatial Sense
Continuing their study of two- and three-dimensional figures which they started in kindergarten math, the 1st grade math students will sort figures and objects according to their attritutes such as vertices and edges. They will understand lines of symmetry and demonstrate slides, turns and reflections. Children studying 1st grade math will combine shapes to form others shapes and find geometric shapes in real-life situations. They will use a number line from 0 to 100 or more.
1st Grade Math Curriculum and Standards – Lessons, Activities, Worksheets – Algebraic Thinking
Children in 1st grade math will predict, extend, and create patterns. They will transfer patterns from one medium to another, describe pattern rules, identify and generate patterns in lists of related pairs based on real-life situations, and explore number patterns on a hundred chart and with a calculator.
The 1st grade math students will solve addition and subtraction sentences where an unknown number is represented by a geometric shape, use objects to solve number sentences with equalities and inequalities using <, =, and >, and solve real-world problems where there is one unknown factor.
1st Grade Math Curriculum and Standards – Lessons, Activities, Worksheets – Data Analysis and Probability
1st grade math students will be asked to survey a small group to answer simple questions involving two categories or choices. They will use math language to read and interpret data based on a simple chart. They will display data and identify range and mode, discuss reasonable predictions, use a calculator to compare data and explore computer graphing software. They will construct questions for a survey and analyze the results as part of a class discussion. 1st grade math students will also discuss results of games and activities dependent on chance.
1st Grade Math Curriculum and Standards – Lessons, Activities, Worksheets – Summary
1st grade math lessons and activities that cover just one or two of these five strands are narrow and lead to a weak understanding of math.
Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive math program. Children are placed in the sequence based on their current skills. Math becomes fun. Parents can participate and watch how new concepts are introduced progressively and mastered through practice. Let your child start learning today. Want to know more? Try the demos of math lessons.
