OCCT: Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests
About Oklahoma Standardized Tests for 3rd – 8th Grade, and High School
Are your kids preparing for the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests? Also known as OCCT tests, these Oklahoma standardized tests measure the progress of students from 3rd grade to 8th grade. Results from the OCCT tests, and the OCCT End-of-Instruction (EOI) tests for high school students, provide actionable data that will help parents, teachers, and students improve academic performance in reading, math, writing, science, social studies, and other subjects. The Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests also help determine each school’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
Time4Learning, an online service that teaches many of the tested skills, offers this page to help you understand the Oklahoma School Testing Program (OSTP), and how you can help your children with OCCT test prep and practice.
Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests at a Glance
Oklahoma public school students take the following Oklahoma standardized tests:
OCCT Tests: 3rd Grade – 8th Grade
The Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests are aligned to Oklahoma’s Priority Academic Student Skills, known as OK PASS skills, which define what students should learn each year. OCCT tests are given as follows:
3rd, 4th, and 6th Grades: OCCT tests in reading and math
Fifth Grade: OCCT tests in reading, math, writing, science, and social studies
Seventh Grade: OCCT tests in reading, math, and geography
Eighth Grade: OCCT tests in reading, math, writing, science, and U.S. History
High School: OCCT End-of-Instruction Tests
Oklahoma high school students take OCCT End-of-Instruction (EOI) tests in algebra I, algebra II, English II, English III, geometry, biology I, and U.S. history upon completion of each course. In order to graduate from a public high school with a standard diploma, students must pass the English II and algebra I tests, as well as two of the other five tests. Oklahoma also teaches personal financial literacy, and as a requirement for graduation, students must demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of such topics as credit card debt, saving money, and understanding loans, among the 14 areas of finance instruction.
How OCCT and Oklahoma EOI Tests Are Scored
The Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests and OCCT End-of-Instruction Tests are standards-based, criterion-referenced tests that measure how well students have mastered the challenging Oklahoma state standards (OK PASS skills). The OCCT tests and Oklahoma EOI tests report student achievement in each subject using the following four levels:
3. Limited Knowledge
The goal is for all Oklahoma students to score at or above the satisfactory level. If your child scores below the satisfactory level, ask your school for additional assistance, and find out what you can do at home to support learning.
Other Oklahoma Standardized Tests
Oklahoma uses a balanced range of assessments to promote learning for all students. The Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP) is designed to measure the progress of students with severe disabilities who require special accommodations. The Oklahoma Modified Alternate Assessment Program (OMAAP) is used with students enrolled in individualized education programs (IEPs) who are persistently low performing. Students who are identified as English Language Learners take the ACCESS for ELLs®, which measures their progress in English language acquisition.
Oklahoma also participates annually in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as the Nation’s Report Card, where a sampling of students (from grades 4, 8, and/or 12) are tested in several content areas as part of a nationally representative assessment of student performance.
A good resource on the Oklahoma School Testing Program is the OK Department of Education website.

The real preparation for the OCCT tests, or any standardized test, begins with your commitment to your children’s education throughout their school years. Devote time and effort to helping your children learn. Start by making sure your kids do their homework and read every day. Many families also employ tutors or an online learning program, such as Time4Learning, to build fundamental skills.
When preparing for standardized tests, students often benefit from test prep programs and books, which offer guidance and practice with test formats, time restrictions, test-taking strategies (when to guess, when not to), and different types of questions. For instance, when a reading passage is followed by comprehension questions, many test prep programs teach students to scan the questions first in order to know what areas of the passage require close reading. Time4Learning is not a test prep program, it is a program that builds the skills that will be tested.
