| Second
Grade Math - 2nd Grade Math
Second Grade Math - 2nd grade
math -Standards covers different strands.
The second
grade math student has specific requirements*:
Second Grade math - Number Sense, Concepts,
and Operations
Second Grade math - Measurement
Second Grade math - Geometry and Spatial
Sense
Second Grade math - Algebraic thinking
Second Grade math - Data Analysis and
Probability
Most parents
in thinking about second grade math
- 2nd grade math - tend to focus on
number sense. Most parents are baffled
by the concept of second grade math
- 2nd grade math - including measurement,
albebraic thinking or data analysis.
Second
grade math should cover each of these
strands.
2nd
Grade Math Number Sense - Fluent
with numbers and place value up to 1000;
knows wholes can be broken into fractions
of halfs, quarters, or tenths, skip
counts by 2s, 3,s 5s 10s, 25s, 50s,
or 100s, solid
<construct
2nd grade standards by class). .......
Number Sense and Operations
- Representing numbers, recognizing
‘how many’ are in a group,
and using numbers to compare and represent
paves the way for grasping number theory,
place value and the meaning of operations
and how they relate to one another.
Algebra - The ability
to sort and order objects or numbers
and recognizing and building on simple
patterns are examples of ways children
begin to experience algebra, preparing
children to work with algebraic variables
as their math experience grows.
Geometry and Spatial Sense -
Using knowledge of basic shapes to identify
more complex 2-D and 3-D shapes by drawing
and sorting, children then learn to
reason spatially, read maps, visualize
objects in space, and use geometric
modelling to solve problems using coordinate
geometry to describe spatial relationships.
Measurement - Learning
how to measure and compare involves
concepts of length, weight, temperature,
capacity and money. Telling the time
and using money links to an understanding
of the number system and represents
an important life skill.
Data Analysis and Probability
- As children collect information
about the world around them, they will
want to display and represent their
knowledge. Using charts, tables, graphs
will help them learn to share and organize
data.
Math lessons and activities that cover
just one or two of these five strands
are narrow and lead to a weak understanding
of math.
Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive
math program. Children are placed in
the sequence based on their current
skills. Math becomes fun. Parents can
participate and watch how new concepts
are introduced progressively and mastered
through practice. Let your child start
learning today. Want to know more?

*Math Standards are defined by each
state. Time4Learning bases its use of
standards on the national bodies that
recommend curriculum and standards and
the intrepretations of it by a sampling
of states notably Florida, Texas, and
California. |
