Homeschooling in Wyoming
Hi my name is Dayna and I live in Kemmerer, Wyoming, with my husband and 2 of my 6 children, ages 8 and 14. My four stepsons have graduated and are out on their own making their mark on the world. I enjoy reading, watching movies, cooking, computers, video games, and experiencing new places with my family. I have been homeschooling for 7 years now. I homeschooled 5 of our 6 children and have found homeschooling to be a right fit for us. I love to help others trying or just curious about homeschooling in Wyoming.

I Love Homeschooling in Wyoming
Legal disclaimer: This section is one family’s story and how they meet the homeschooling laws in Wyoming. It is not intended and should not be used as definitive legal advice. In most states, parents find a variety of legal methods to pursue the educational approach that they prefer for their child.
I love homeschooling in Wyoming; it is one of the few states with very little regulations.

. The only issues are in the smaller communities it
is harder to find other homeschoolers and many people are not as open
minded to the idea, but it is growing here and becoming more accepted
since I first started 7 years ago. The larger cities, like Cheyenne and
Casper, have homeschool groups and many resources for homeschoolers;
the smaller towns may require a little work to find others, but the
internet is a great place to help find resources.
The basic legal requirements for homeschooling in Wyoming are turning in a basic form that you can pick up from the administration building, or sending in a letter stating you will be homeschooling. You can find an example here: http://www.homeschoolersofwy.org/downloads/intent.pdf
The letter is basically saying you will be homeschooling, including your name, children’s names, ages, address ect… and a copy of your curriculum outline, covering 7 subjects; Writing, Reading, Literature, Science, Math, History and Civics. This can be a scope and sequence like you can find here on Time for Learning or world book under typical course of study http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Home, or a list of textbooks and publishers that you will be using. The age requirement is 7 years of age (birthday before September 15th) through 16 years (or completion of 10th grade). A minimum of 175 days of attendance is required each year. There are no testing requirements, no teaching qualifications required, it is very easy to homeschool here.

A Day in Our Homeschool
You might be interested to know what a day in our homeschool looks like...
Our homeschool day starts at 10 am with going over our lesson plans for the day and the children picking what they want to do first. My son starts with PE to work out some extra energy (ADHD) and then usually reading upside down on the couch, to help him to be able to settle down for his classes that require more concentration. Due to his ADHD he is more of a visual learner, and T4L has helped him to be able to enjoy Math and Language Arts. He usually does Math 3 days a week and covers 2-3 chapters of T4L, and Language Arts 3 days a week also covering 2-3 sections of that each day. My daughter starts with Language arts or Math, trying to get her harder classes over with in the morning and ending with her favorite class art. This is her first year with T4L and has enjoyed it more then any other math and language arts program we have ever tried. She says science is as fun as the days we do science projects and looks forward more to schooling then ever before.
