4th grade math students use geometric vocabulary to describe properties of two- and three-dimensional figures. This vocabulary includes 'faces', 'edges', 'vertices' and 'diameter'. The children learn to draw and classify figures having up to eight or more sides. They solve problems requiring spatial visualization. Also they explore symmetry, congruency, and reflections in geometric figures.

4th grade math students know and create congruent and similar figures. They study the effects of flips, slides, and turns. They learn more about tessellations. Using real-world situations they compare the concepts of area and perimeter. They learn how area and perimeter are affected when geometric figures are combined.
