4th Grade Math Curriculum - Standards, Lessons, Activities, Printable Worksheets
A Fourth grade math curriculum should be taught using Fourth grade lessons including interactive activities, learning games, printable worksheets, assessments, and reinforcement. Fourth grade math curriculum should rely on many learning tools - Fourth grade lessons with activities, worksheets, reinforcement exercises, and assessments. And a Fourth grade math curriculum should cover all the math strands, not just arithmetic. The major math strands for Fourth grade curriculum are number sense and operations, algebra, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, and data analysis and probability. While these math strands might surprise you, they are all critical lessons for a Fourth grade math curriculum.
4th grade math lessons, worksheets, and activities teach Fourth grade math curriculum covering all the math strands.
4th Grade Math - What are the Standards and Curriculum?
Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive 4th grade math curriculum using fun, Fourth grade math activities to build a solid math foundation. Help your child excel in math, learn more about Time4Learning's Fourth grade math lessons, curriculum, activities and worksheets.
4th Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Geometry and Spatial Sense
4th grade math students use geometric vocabulary to describe properties of two- and three-dimensional figures. This vocabulary includes 'faces', 'edges', 'vertices' and 'diameter'. The children learn to draw and classify figures having up to eight or more sides. They solve problems requiring spatial visualization. Also they explore symmetry, congruency, and reflections in geometric figures.
4th grade math students know and create congruent and similar figures. They study the effects of flips, slides, and turns. They learn more about tessellations. Using real-world situations they compare the concepts of area and perimeter. They learn how area and perimeter are affected when geometric figures are combined. Using graphs and coordinate systems the students identify, locate and plot ordered pairs of whole numbers.
4th Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Algebraic Thinking
4th grade math students study numeric and geometric patterns using lists, tables, charts, and more. They pose, solve and explain problems with predictable visual or numeric patterns. They learn about mathematical relationships in patterns, analyzing them and stating rules for relationships within patterns. Using information learned from patterns the students apply appropriate rules to complete tables and charts.
The 4th grade math students solve problems invovling equations or simple inequalities. They use variables along with numbers such as 3x or 4y. Using these variables they translate problem-solving situations into expressions and equasions.
4th Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Data Analysis and Probability
4th grade math students learn about various parts of a graph and are expected to choose reasonable titles and labels. They interpret and compare information from various graphs, generate questions, collect responses, and display data on pictographs, circle graphs, bar, double bar, and line graphs. They use common fractions to interpret and complete circle graphs. Studying data displays, the students should be able to analyze and explain their implications. They identify mean, median, and mode in a data set, and range on a line graph. They use a calculator to determine range and mean.
4th grade math students examine sets of items and determine a number of possible combinations to display them in an organized way. Using organized lists, charts and tree diagrams they represent all possible outcomes for a simple probability situation. Using common fractions they identify and record possible outcomes of experiments using, for example, coin toss, spinners, or number cubes. Experiments will be used to test predictions.
During 4th grade, math students design a survey to collect data. They create an appropriate graph to display the data they collect and determine appropriate statistical measures for the data, including range, mean, median, and mode. Using statistics students explain the results of their survey, identify trends, and justify generalizations.
4th Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Summary
4th grade math lessons and activities that cover just one or two of these five strands are narrow and lead to a weak understanding of math.

Learning the Math Facts, Where do they fit in building a math foundation?
*Math Standards are defined by each state. Time4Learning bases its use of 4th grade math curriculum and standards on the national bodies that recommend curriculum, lessons, and standards on a sampling of states notably Florida, Texas, and California.
