3rd Grade Math

3rd grade math is where the basics of arithmetic operations should be mastered and where 3rd grade geometry moves into the conceptual.

This mastery is developed with lots of 3rd grade math worksheets. Through both worksheets and 3rd grade math games, 3rd grade math problems are practiced and practiced to develop 3rd grade math skill to meet the grade level exectations: 3rd grade math tests are more rigorous than in previous years.

The 3rd grade word problems can combine multiple skills in the same problem. Is it time for some 3rd grade math help?

A 3rd grade lesson plan relies on many learning tools - 3rd grade math worksheets, 3rd grade math games, and lots of 3rd grade math activities and word problems to ensure relevancy. .

The major math strands are number sense and operations, algebra, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, and data analysis and probability.

3rd Grade Math - What are the Standards and Curriculum?

Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive 3rd grade math curriculum using fun, Third grade math activities to build a solid math foundation. Help your child excel in math, learn more about Time4Learning's Third grade math lessons, curriculum, activities and worksheets.

3rd Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Geometry and Spatial Sense

3rd grade math students learn the meanings of "parallel", "perpendicular", "quadrilateral", and "right angle" and many other terms. They use these new words to describe the properties of two- and three-dimensional figures. They draw and classify two-dimensional figures having up to six or more sides.

During 3rd grade math the children learn more about symmetry, congruency and reflections in geometric figures. They are taught about the effects of flips, slides, and 180 degree turns and will explore tessellations. They explore the concepts of area and permimeter, applying these concepts to solve real-world and mathematical problems. They learn to identify, locate and plot ordered pairs of whole numbers on a graph.

3rd Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Algebraic Thinking

3rd grade math students learn about identifying missing parts in numerical patterns. They study and solve problems involving predictable numeric or visual patterns, then learn to extend them and create similar patterns. They are encouraged to analyze patterns then state the rules for relationships within the patterns and discuss them. They identify and extend patterns according to a given rule and then apply and explain the rule to complete a table or chart.

3rd grade math students solve number sentences with missing addends, create simple word problems for a given number sentence, diagram or model, and solve real-world equations and inequalities. They need to prepare for future algebra lessons by understanding that an equation is a number sentence stating two quantities are equal.

3rd Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Data Analysis and Probability

During 3rd grade math, data analysis becomes more complex, including identification of different parts of a graph such as title, labels, and key. The children interpret and compare information from picto- and bar graphs. They create questions, collect responses, and display data. These displays of data are interpreted and explained to show a complete understanding of the process. The children are expected to use statistical data to recognize trends and to make and explain generalizations.

3rd grade math students identify range median and mode in numerical data sets and will compare data using calculators. They look at computer-generated-graphs, constructing and discussing patterns using real-world problems. They learn to represent all possible outcomes for a particular situation or event using models such as charts or lists. They calculate the probability of an event occurring using a set of all possible outcomes. During 3rd grade math they perform simple experiments to identify and record possible outcomes - and determine which outcomes are most likely to occur in certain situations.

3rd Grade Math Curriculum and Standards - Lessons, Activities, Worksheets - Summary

3rd grade math lessons and activities that cover just one or two of these five strands are narrow and lead to a weak understanding of math.

Time4Learning teaches a comprehensive math program with 3rd grade math learning activities, curriculum, printable worksheets, and assessments. Children are placed in the sequence based on their current skills. Math becomes fun. Parents can participate and watch how new concepts are introduced progressively and mastered through practice.
